Aisulu is an Assistant Professor in Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. Prior to joining CMU, she was a Kavli Nanoscience Institute Postdoctoral Fellow at the California Institute of Technology. She earned her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at Stanford University. Aisulu received her M.S. in Chemical Engineering Practice from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan.

Postdoctoral Scholar

Boqiang received his Ph.D. in chemistry at Boston College under the supervision of Prof. Matthias Waegele and Prof. Dunwei Wang. His research mainly focused on using infrared spectroscopy to understand the mechanisms of OER and HER. He earned his B.S. in chemistry at Fuzhou University in China. In his free time, he likes to play sports and watch documentaries.

Ph.D. Student

Kyle obtained his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Washington, where he conducted research on plastic chemical recycling under the guidance of Professor Julie Rorrer. Outside of research, Kyle enjoys exercising, playing magic the gathering, watching anime, listening to music, and putting as many animals into his pockets as he can while hiking.

Ph.D. Student

Lia got her bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and chemistry from Vanderbilt University, where she conducted research under the supervision of Professor Lauren Buchanan. Her research focused on studying proteins with infrared spectroscopy. In her free time, she loves playing and listening to music, reading, and cooking with friends and family.

M.S. Student

Johnathan earned his bachelor's degree in Biological Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech, where he conducted research under the supervision of Dr. Ryan Senger. His work focused on utilizing quinones to reduce biosynthetic cofactors. Beyond the lab, Johnathan enjoys hiking, watching sports, and raising goats.

Undergraduate Student

Matthew is a sophomore undergraduate student majoring in Chemical Engineering with an additional major in Biomedical Engineering. He is working on liquid-liquid extraction of rare earth elements in microfluidic devices. During his downtime, Matthew enjoys playing trombone, learning about history, and trying not to get bitten by his cat.

Undergraduate Student

Apurv is a sophomore from Seattle, Washington, double majoring in Chemical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. In the lab, he works under the guidance of Kyle Smith, focusing on the characterization and synthesis of singlet oxygen. Outside of school, he enjoys playing guitar, going to the gym, baking, horseback riding, and spending time with friends!
